Women’s Financial Status – Women’s History Month
Today is International Women’s Day!
In honor of Women’s History Month, Shurwest Financial posted an article listing ways in which women have advanced in terms of social and economic status.
Unfortunately, not all of it is good news. Apparently, middle – and low – income women are losing ground while the wealthiest women in America are getting wealthier.
This is something that ignites my passion. Because I believe all women have the right to prosper. But there are many factors that hinder our ability to do so. Such as the fact that we still earn about seventy-eight cents for every dollar a man makes.
And, don’t even get me started on access to workplace retirement plan accounts for part-time and re-entry women. Or, the fact that we spend more time out of the workforce to provide {free} care-giving to loved ones. Urghhh.
Even so, here are a few financial facts regarding women’s status that may inspire you:
- Women control nearly 60% of the wealth in the United States.
- The number of wealthy women in the U.S. is growing twice as fast as the number of wealthy men.
- There are more than half a million women with personal incomes of $100,000 or more.
- Women represent more than 40% of all Americans with gross investable assets above $600,000.
- 45% of American millionaires are women.
- 48% of estates worth more than $5 million are controlled by women, compared with 35% controlled by men.
- 60% of high-net-worth women have earned their own fortunes.
- Women control 80% of consumer spending.
- By 2030, women will control two-thirds of the nation’s wealth.
- Almost half—44%—of women are the primary breadwinners in their households, an almost four-fold increase since 1960.
Pretty impressive, right?
